TPO Orkit®
Cat. No TPO-100: 96
well kit
| Introduction |
Thyroperoxidase (TPO)
has been found to be the main component of the “microsomal
antigen”. The presence of TPO autoantibodies in serum is
associated with thyroid autoimmune diseases (Graves’ disease and
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis). These antibodies predominantly belong
to the IgG class and are clearly polyclonal.TPO
antibody testing is especially helpful in case of:
- clinical suspicion of Graves’ disease without thyroid or
ocular signs,
- subclinical hypothyroidism (TSH between 5 and 20 mIU/l),
- suspicion of hypothyroidism in school children.
Elevated TPO
antibody levels in early pregnancy represent a risk factor for
post partum thyroiditis. High
TPO antibody concentrations should also be taken into account
before initiating a treatment with amiodarone, lithium or alpha
interferon.
